A tiny seed in the field fell to the earth one day

And a mighty gust of wind sent it on its way

It blew across the field and then a hill it rolled down

Into a small stream flowing at the edge of town

It washed over rocks and swirled to the shore

Where it finally ended up coming to rest once more

Now the sun was shinning and the earth was hot

Which prompted a small shepherd to find rest in that spot

In the shade, he bent down and started to pray

And thank the Lord for everything He had given that day

Then he got up and left feeling better inside

The seed concealed by mud on his sandals did ride

It was carried back home and then tossed to the ground

When the shepherd boy and his brothers played around

It was there that it planted and started to grow

Until one day its stalk would break through and show

The soil was good and the timing just right

And after a while there was no more seed in sight

But instead stood a stalk of fully grown grass

That padded the feet of those who would pass

An out of the way stable on the edge of town

The outskirts of Bethlehem is where it was found

And then one night as in the Lord's plan

That stalk of grass was plucked by a man

Making a place for his family to stay

To give birth to their son that was due on that day

The grass that was gathered lined an old manger bed

And cushioned the place where animals once fed

It had come a long way its fate never known

To fulfill a destiny made and controlled by God alone

God placed that seed there when it was at its very best

For it was the straw on which His Son's head would rest

In the Name of Christ
